Bee Gees

To-Love-Somebody-

Die Bee Gees was nog altyd een van my groot gunstelinge. Hulle bly darem 'n wenneer. Jy kan in enige bui wees en na hulle luister en hulle sit jou sommer in die regte bui! Fluweel-musiek!

James Blunt, music movie

Ek het James se CD...."Back to bedlam" en daarop verskyn die liedjie wat op die video is, "You're beautiful". Ander wat ook mooi is, is "Goodbye my lover", "Tears and rain" en "High"...

Peer Gynt

Chris from My kop op 'n blok inspired me to write about Peer Gynt. I read his post about Peer Gynt and that took me back to my secondary school when I was 14. Our music teacher discussed the story about the music/play of Peer Gynt, composed by Edvard Grieg. I loved it, and "Anitra's dance" and "In the Hall of the Mountain King" were my favourite bits.
Last year, I taught a mixed Y5/Y6 class and I played them the animation on BBC 's Radio 3's website. The music you hear on Radio 3's site is "In the Hall of the Mountain King!" Have some "messy fun" on their site!!

We listened to the music first, they drew a storyboard, which they thought would suit the music best. Then I showed them the animation and they then drew a second storyboard with the real story in a sequence... they loved this animation which is quite good...have a look! I myself found it enjoyable! I was really impressed when I found it on the web!

Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) is the greatest composer Norway has fostered. In retrospect one may wonder how a country with neither national freedom nor a long tradition of art music could have produced a man of such genius. Up to 1814 Norway had been totally subject to Denmark, with Copenhagen as its cultural center. From 1814 to 1905 it was forced into a union with Sweden. The first half of the eighteenth century was a time of poverty in Norway and it was some time before it could assert itself among its Scandinavian brothers.

Read more HERE about the composer, Edvard Grieg.

Peer Gynt is a play by the Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. It was written in 1867, and first performed in Christiania (now Oslo) on 24 February 1876, with incidental music by the composer Edvard Grieg. Ibsen wrote Peer Gynt while traveling in Rome, on Ischia and in Sorrento. It was first published on November 14, 1867, in Copenhagen. The first edition comprised 1,250 copies. It was followed by a re-print of 2,000 copies after 14 days.

Water organ

This water organ makes me wonder if the water organ at Lake Centurion still operates! I spent many a night there listening and watching! And Jo'burg's?

A little while ago, I was saying on my blog that I want to lose weight! Well, I haven't started with a diet...I never can...the moment when I say I diet...then I wanna eat 10 times more...so I don't say I'm on a diet..I just eat less...and this morning...the scale has told me...that I 've lost 2 kg's the past two days! I couldn't believe my eyes..so I took the scale downstairs...in different places...upstairs...bathroom, corridor...still the same! So!! I think I'm smart! hahaha...I don't weigh myself everyday, but I do know that I weighed 2 more 2 days ago than this morning!

Radio Stations

South African Radio Stations, follow this link if you are interested. It is Steve Hofmeyr's Blog, one of our BEST artists in SA. Belgium artist, Dana Winner, has performed with him in SA a few years ago in Sun City. His blog is mainly Afrikaans, because Steve is a fighter for Afrikaans (and a BIG one for our country), but you will find a lot of English pages/bits too. He is a singer/writer/poet/actor -- very talented and also, lately started to negotiate with Thabo Mbeki about Afrikaans and the change of Street names in our country. Very silly to try "change" history to suit you, hey! They change street names, city names, airport names, just show you what kind of people are in charge of the country....

De la Rey

De la Rey song (in English)

On a mountain in the night

We lie in the dark and wait

In the mud and the blood

As rain and grain bag cling to me

And my house and my farm were

Burnt to the ground so they could capture us

But those flames and those fires now

Burn deep, deep within me.

[CHORUS]

De la Rey, De la Rey can you come and lead the Boers?

De la Rey, De la Rey

General, General

we will fall around you as one

General De la Rey.

The Khakis that laugh

A handful of us against a massive force

With our backs to the cliffs of the mountains

They think it's over for us

But the heart of a farmer is deeper

And wider, they will come to see

On a horse he comes, the Lion of West Transvaal.

[CHORUS]
Because my wife and my child are in a camp dying,

And the Khakis are walking over a nation that will rise again.

[CHORUS]
