Thank you to the people of Netherland!
In South Africa farmers get killed on a daily basis! The world is turning a blind eye as to what is going on in South Africa. Luckily, ONE country is NOT turning a blind eye. Holland! Thank you to Holland, our "mother country" for supporting the white farmers of South Africa by doing something about it! This image-screenshot is from the website here. Please click HERE to see the original page. If you don't understand Dutch, you can use google-translator. These news headlines in blue are ALL about the killings. [look at the dates too] South Africa is on the slippery road due to our government. This is SAD, but true. We've thought that our country would become [under the new government] a fantastic place to live, but unfortunately, it's not the case after how many years since 1994. These killers feel nothing for children, elderly people and even women. If you're one of those turning a blind eye to everything, then you can do at least something and that is to pray that all people are save tonight when YOU go to bed.

Dear Mr President Jacob Zuma

Sefu Sekgala 01 February at 15:20
Dear Mr President Jacob Zuma
Today at 4:54am
Dear Mr President Jacob Zuma
After having read the front page story of the Sunday Times (31/01/2010), I feel compelled to write to you as this ordinary citizen that I am. Because I am a commoner, my judgement of your actions could be regarded as disrespect. Equally you might be indulging in all these sordid acts because you feel that you cannot be questioned and brought to book.
As a young man I have an interest in the way in which those in power are behaving, so as to ensure that we have good, moral and ethical leaders to look upon. A public figure who does not inspire confidence or does not conduct themselves in a manner that seek to inspire development of society, should be eliminated from the limelight and sent into the deepest of corners so that their misleading acts are shunned. To me you happen to be such an individual.
In your address during your inauguration and also in your first State of the Nation address, you emphasised greatly on moral regeneration. The reason why religion has seemingly failed to produce members that embody the values taught in religious institutions is because the preachers themselves are failing to be upright leaders who live out what they preach. You are such a preacher to me.
Given your past record that displays you as a man who is easily tempted by indulging in sexual intercourse, it is very difficult for me to throw water over the claims made by the Sunday Times. To me it is irrelevant that the person you impregnated is the daughter of Dr Irvin “The Iron Duke” Khoza, I would still feel the same way even if it was just yet another woman. If this baby was born under normal circumstances, it means that you must have slept with this lady around January 2009. During the same time you had already paid Lobola for Thobeka Madiba-Zuma and you were planning your wedding day with her. At the same time you were already having the pleasure of being attended to by two wives. I suppose given that you were busy campaigning for the 2009 General Elections, the challenges that you faced couldn’t be accommodated by your wives, you needed to find solace and release your masculine energy on another woman outside wedlock.
What nauseates me the most is the fact that this lady got pregnant, meaning you had unprotected sex yet again. To me it is clear that you have unprotected sex with your wives, because you do it so easily with “omakhwapheni”. It means you are a risk to your wives, because you seem to be fishing for HIV, so that you can take the catch home and distribute it evenly amongst them. Unless there is preventive medication for HIV that you have and we the ordinary people do not have access to.
The Zulu Kingdom should be ashamed at how you have paraded their culture of polygamy, a culture that is in fact to me very demeaning of women. To me it symbolises true qualities of chauvinism and patriarchy, whereby if a man is not satisfied with one woman, then they can go get another. Meanwhile society would vilify a woman who would take a second man. Polygamy also promotes cheating on your wife, because you must first know the second wife, well in your case sixth, intimately on stolen moments away from your wife. So during that time you are lying to your wife or wives claiming to be seeing no one besides them and even to God, whom you made such a pact with when getting married.
Polygamy reduces women to objects that are used to just satisfy the egos of many men out there, who see having many women as a sense of superiority and achievement. To me this is a very small minded sense of thinking.
I cannot have you preach morality to me when you partake in such disgusting acts that make me feel if only I was not a South African. When a sex scandal broke off about Mr Bill Clinton, he had to step down as President of the USA. The President of the World Bank stepped down after such allegations were tabled against him. However to you it is just yet another day another dollar and nothing will happen, because you are hiding behind tradition and using it to camouflage your helpless sexuality.
You are a man who does not respect women clearly, a man who does not believe in treating your wives with the best respect they deserve. I doubt maKhumalo is happily married to you, but she is probably fearful of what shall become of her if she were to leave you. It is unfortunate that the majority of the people in your organisation find your acts acceptable; it goes to show how the morals of the ANC have become fragmented over the years.
You occupy the highest seat in our land and many people will find a way of using your acts to justify their mistakes and atrocious behaviours which resemble yours. You are not a beacon of hope to me, but rather that one of disaster.
It is impossible that you could raise all your 20 children, so it means that you promote unstructured families whereby kids grow up with single parents. You promote and justify cheating. You promote for society to discredit the three pillars of fighting HIV, because you do not Abstain, you do not get to Be Faithful, you do not Condomize.
What are you good for? Absolutely nothing. You are shaming our country and making it seem as if we are unable to be led by principled leaders.
You are a health risk to your wives, you are a financial risk to the taxpayers who must pay for your opulence and you still pledge your support to communists.
I ask of you to step down as President, before you turn South Africa into a quagmire that resembles your sexual life and its animalistic behaviours.

13 wives and 30 children!!?

Paul Kruger was the President of South Africa during the British-South African War (Boer War). He was born on the 10th October and in the "old" South Africa, this day was always a public holiday. I was on a hiking trip in the Transkei. Read here about my hiking trip in the Transkei..and here more ...... Anyway..uncle Mauritz ....... took us to the most beautiful and interesting places in the Transkei...and he also took us to a lady...a black lady...she lived about 50m from the beach! We were tired and thirsty when we reached her home and she had the coldest cool drink ready for us. This lady...(will never remember her name!), was the 13th wife(!!!) of the attendant of Paul Kruger!! Now, you would think that with 13 wives there would be zillions of children...no! only about 30! that brings you with an average of 2-3 children per wife, which is really a small number...if you know what I mean...anyway...she had a bed of her husband with artifacts of Paul Kruger. I took photos of it. Paul Kruger's photo was also on the bed. Her husband was the last attendant of Paul Kruger. She told us...very interesting!! ...that every year on the 10th October...she and all the other wives, come together near Potgietersrus/Pietersburg and celebrate Paul Kruger's day!! I wonder if they are still alive and how many of them and if they still do it!! That was really an amazing day on that trip...I can still picture about 20 geese walking around her house and everything was so tidy and neat and she had really a lovely house on the beach...

Kruger was born at Bulhoek, his grandfather's farm in the Steynsburg district near the town of Cradock, and grew up on the farm Vaalbank. He received only three months' formal education, his master being one Tielman Roos, but supposedly became knowledgeable from life on the veld. His father, Casper Kruger, joined the trek party of Hendrik Potgieter when the Great Trek started in 1836.
The trekkers crossed the Vaal River in 1838, and at first stayed in the area that is known today as Potchefstroom. Kruger's father later decided to settle in the district now known as Rustenburg. At the age of 16, Kruger was entitled to choose a farm for himself at the foot of the Magaliesberg, where he settled in 1841.
The following year he married Maria du Plessis, and the young couple accompanied his father to live in the Eastern Transvaal for a while. After the family had returned to Rustenburg, Kruger's wife and infant son died, probably from malaria. He then married Gezina du Plessis, who was his constant and devoted companion until her death in 1901. Seven daughters and nine sons were born of the marriage, some dying in infancy

Blue mood...thoughts drifting...Ingrid Jonker

Ingrid Jonker died by walking into the sea!
To: Ingrid Jonker...Poet...A van Heerden
I see her pain,
I hear her voice
No one understood,
on one looked up
She carried a burden,
She carried herself,
She carried alone
~
Through her words,
Through her words,
Through her thoughts,
Through her lines
Through her phrases
She opened her soul
She opened her soul
She opened her heart
She cried out
All on deaf ear
Abandoned
Abandoned
alone confused
loved used
abused
She let them.
She let them.
~
Their acceptance made her accept,
But she died of that,
inside her soul.
She had too much of this world to carry on…
The water was calling
In her own defence
The water was calling
In her own defence
She gave herself
At her own expense…

Somewhere I have never travelled - Iewers het ek nooit gereis nie
Ingrid Jonker.....adapted by e.e. cummings
+
somewhere I have never travelled,
gladly beyond any experience,
your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which I cannot touch because they are too near
~~~~~
iewers het ek nooit gereis nie daardie groen verte
verby alle herinneringe jou oë dra hul stilte
in jou geringste gebaar is daar iets wat my omsluit
of wat ek nie durf aanraak nie iets te ná
~~~~
your slightest look easily will unclose me
though I have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself
as Spring opens(touching skilfully, mysteriously) her first rose
~~~~
jou oë van landskappe sal my maklik blootlê
al het ek my hart gesluit soos twee hande
jy ontvou my keer op keer soos die lente
bedrewe en heimlik haar eerste roos
~~~~
or if your wish be to close me, I and
my life will shut very beautifully, suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;
~~~~
en as jy my sou verlaat geslote dan
sou my voorhoof sluit mooi en onmiddelik
soos die hart van 'n blom sou droom
van 'n wit sneeu wat alles oral bedek
~~~~
nothing which we are to perceive in this world
equals the power of intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the colour of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing
~~~~
niks wat ons in hierdie wêreld kan versin
ewenaar die krag van jou broosheid die tekstuur
van jou oë tref my die groen van sy veld
een bevestig die ewige en die vir altyd met elke sug
~~~~
(I do not know what it is about you that closes and opens;
only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands
~~~~
ek weet nie wat dit is wat jou laat vou
en ontvou nie ek verstaan net êrens op my reise
die stem van jou oë is dieper as alle rose
nee nie eens die reën nie het sulke hande
Poem found here: Parnassus ...
The Child
The child is not dead
The child lifts his fists against his mother
Who shouts Africa ! shouts the breath
Of freedom and the veld
In the locations of the cordoned heart
~~~
The child lifts his fists against his father
in the march of the generations
who shouts Africa ! shout the breath
of righteousness and blood
in the streets of his embattled pride
~~~
The child is not dead not at Langa
nor at Nyanga not at Orlando
nor at Sharpeville
nor at the police station at Philippi
where he lies with a bullet through his brain
~~~
The child is the dark shadow of the soldiers
on guard with rifles Saracens and batons
the child is present at all assemblies and law-givings
the child peers through the windows of houses and into the hearts of mothers
this child who just wanted to play in the sun at Nyanga is everywhere
the child grown to a man treks through all Africa
the child grown into a giant journeys through the whole world
Without a pass

Madeliefies in Namakwaland
~~~Ingrid Jonker
Waarom luister ons nog
na die antwoorde van die madeliefies
op die wind op die son
wat het geword van die kokkewietjies
Agter die geslote voorkop
waar miskien nog ’n takkie tuimel
van ’n verdrinkte lente
~~~
Agter my gesneuwelde woord
Agter ons verdeelde huis
Agter die hart gesluit teen homself
Agter draadheinings, kampe, lokasies
Agter die stilte waar onbekende tale
val soos klokke by ’n begrafenis
Agter ons verskleurde land
Agter ons verskleurde land
~~~
sit die groen hotnotsgot van die veld
en ons hoor nog verdwaasd
klein blou Namakwaland-madeliefie
iets antwoord, iets glo, iets weet.
South Africa...37 ..Fiji..20
WELL DONE!! SOUTH AFRICA!!! AGAIN!!!
Ek het natuurlik die wedstryd weer op TV gekyk, maar ai, die spanning!! Hierdie Fijiane is blokke van manne, hulle eet seker meer as net mieliepap daar anderkant! My senuwees was natuurlik gedaan en toe dit nou sommer 20-20 is, toe breek my moed en met 23-20 het ek omtrent nie verder gekyk nie, ek wou nie sien hoe Suid-Afrika begrawe word nie, dit sal darem te erg wees. Maar later weer gekyk....kan ook nie wegbly nie, moet darem my land ondersteun! Sjoe! Dit was darem hittette...ek is net vrek bly ons is deur....ek glo die paadjie nou is sommer maklik, maar Suid-Afrika moet net nie nou op hul loure gaan sit en dink...hulle kan gerus wees nie...hierdie Franse en Engelse is bietjie skuilie, ek dink hulle steek iets weg....
Percy Montgomery kicks the conversion, and South Africa get a 17-point win which they barely deserve.
The final whistle goes and South Africa are through to the last four to face either Scotland or Argentina.
77 mins: There's a bad-tempered end to this classic encounter with Fourie du Preez and Schalk Burger both losing their rag as South Africa try to score a clinching try.
South Africa keep on taking 5m scrum after 5m scrum, and it has effectively ended the game.
73 mins: Terrible bad luck for Fiji as flanker Akapusi Qera gets a fingertip to Butch James's attempted drop-goal as he charges it down.
James's effort is always going wide of the posts and long, but Qera's touch means South Africa get a totally undeserved 5m scrum.
Schalk Burger bursts off the back of it, but knocks on in the act of scoring to give Fiji a glimmer of hope.
71 mins: Fiji are still attacking, but a knock-on from Seru Rabeni allows South Africa to clear through Butch James's booming touchfinder.
69 mins: TRY South Africa 30-20 FijiSouth Africa's forwards power their way through for a hard-earned try which should, in theory, win them the match. We've said that before though, haven't we?
A great kick from Fourie du Preez puts Fiji in trouble in their own 22, and their line-out is penalised for not straight.
South Africa take full advantage as just a few phases later, Juan Smith drives over for a desperately needed try.
Percy Montgomery kicks the converison, and South Africa are more than a converted try clear.
67 mins: This is yet another classic quarter-final. Fiji burst up the right flank with a Lomo-esque surge from Vilimoni Delasau, before the ball goes out to the other flank.
A debateable forward pass, unnoticed by the officials, makes its way to Ifereimi Rawaqa but a sublime tackle form JP Pietersen stops the lcok from touching down. One of the best tackles I have ever seen, and you cannot take your eyes off this for a second.
Oktobermaand...Leipoldt
Leipoldt, C. Louis, 1880-1947Leipoldt is a South African poet, one of the BEST poets...he describes in this poem the month October. He says October is the most beautiful month...for South Africa, that's the truth of course if you look at my previous entry's photos!
C. LOUIS LEIPOLDT
Dit is die maand Oktober!
Die mooiste, mooiste maand!
Dan is die dag so helder, so groen is elke aand,
so blou en sonder wolke die hemel heerlik bo,
so blomtuin vol van kleure die asvaal ou Karoo,
so blomtuin vol van kleure die asvaal ou Karoo.
Dit is die maand Oktober!
Die varkblom is in bloei;
oor al die seekoeigate is kafferskuil gegroei;
die koppies, kort gelede nog as 'n klip so kaal,
het nou vir welkomsgroetnis hul mooiste voor gehaal;
het nou vir welkomsgroetnis hul mooiste voor gehaal.
Dit is die maand Oktober!
Die akkerboom is groen;
die bloekoms langs die paaie is almal nuut geboen;
en orals in die tuin rond ruik jy sering en roos,
jasmyn en katjiepiering, lemoen en appelkoos,
jasmyn en katjiepiering, lemoen en appelkoos.
Dit is die maand Oktober!
Ek dink die mense vier vir ewig
in die hemel Oktobermaand soos hier!
Wat wens jy meer as blomme, as helder dag en nag?
Wat kan jy beter, mooier of heerliker verwag?
Wat kan jy beter, mooier of heerliker verwag?
Wat gee ek om die winter?
Wat praat jy nou van Mei?
Wat skeel dit as ons later weer donker dae kry?
Ek is nou in Oktober, die mooiste, mooiste maand,
met elke dag so helder, so pragtig elke aand!
Met elke dag so helder, so pragtig elke aand!
Jacaranda City...Jakaranda Stad!
IT IS OCTOBER! and I can imagine....Pretoria...what you look like! Purple Jacarandas everywhere! You can't hide yourself! This is the time when students are busy preparing for end-of-year exams...and...when they fall in love! I can remember how the men would come and visit with a bit of a Jacaranda branch! And..how you would go for a walk, bare feet...just to step on those blossoms and get your feet purple! Dan sing ek saam met Laurika Rauch:
Jakaranda Strate....roep my vanaand...ek luister na die liedjie op die wind en ek volg my hart waar hy gaan....Jakaranda Strate...Jakaranda Strate...Jakaranda Strate...roep my vanaand...ek luister na die liedjie op die wind en ek volg my hart waar hy gaan....
SA's play rugby for Australia?
Wallabies eye more Bok recruits
2007-9-28 11:58
France - Australia is looking at unearthing more young South Africans like Dan Vickerman and Clyde Rathbone in the build-up to the next Rugby World Cup in 2011, according to reports.
Newly-appointed Australian Rugby Union high performance manager Pat Howard has arrived at the World Cup in France to examine what countries and what systems are producing the best results.
Australia has had great success poaching young Springboks into its ranks, with lock Vickerman a member of the current national squad and outside back Rathbone forced out of World Cup selection reckoning through injury.
"It's a matter of looking at how we, with our very small player base, stay up there at the top end," Howard told Australian media on Friday.
"If we leave it to luck, you might get the Argentine model occasionally coming through, but it's not a consistent model."
Huisgenoot 1916
Read HERE on my Wordpress-blog everything about Huisgenoot...there are images and a link to the University of Pretoria where you can download some articles too. This link will open in a new window.
The "Huisgenoot" magazine is certainly THE oldest family magazine in South Africa. These pics come from the magazines which I found on TUKKIES (University of Pretoria) website. I myself have got a few of these old Huisgenoot mags, but they are in bits! I've got a few complete pages and others are half pages and bits...and...pieces....I think my oldest one dated 1932.(all in SA packed away) In our family, I was always the one that liked the old history stuff and wanted to keep all kinds of precious, (well to me) historical "artifacts" safe. I hated History as a subject at school when I had to study and learn for exams, but love to read about it and visit historical places and museums. In my last two years of study, I had an optional "subject", called Museum studies. We visited every Thursday a museum in the city....or near the city...we were only about 15 students...my History tutor was really an interesting man. He joined us on all those trips and could come up with the most amazing facts about Pretoria and you were like..."oh my....gosh...I didn't know that! and I do live here!"...your jaws dropped every minute he was talking...anyway...those trips were just big fun...the Post Office museum...which is not in Pretoria anymore, but in Cape Town....was the biggest fun...we played like 10-year old kids with everything, about the only museum where we were allowed to touch everything...we made phone calls to one another with the old phones and sent messages with the morse code machine...that was great fun! We had to hand in a folder with information about every visit and museum by the end....and....I still have mine! ...I couldn't throw away such precious articles and photos/post cards/information/leaflets/notes ...etc.
De ontwikkeling van het Afrikaans
Het Afrikaans heeft zich ontwikkeld uit het zeventiende-eeuwse Hollands: De Oost-Indische compagnie (VOC) koos in de 17e eeuw de Kaap de Goede Hoop als rustplaats op haar weg naar Indië. Op de lange zeereizen had men behoefte aan een vast station, waar vers eten en drinken aan boord kon worden gehaald, zieken konden worden achtergelaten enz.
De eerste kolonisten aan de Kaap kwamen uit het zuiden van de Nederlanden, wat aan bepaalde details in het huidige Afrikaans nog te merken is. Het waren matrozen en boeren, allebei groepen met heel verschillende woordenschatten en dialecten. De inheemse bewoners van het zuidelijke Afrika waren toen voor het grootste deel zogenaamde Hottentotten en Bosjesmannen.
Vanaf 1740 was de voertaal in Zuid-Afrika niet meer zuiver Nederlands. Een van de meest plausibele theorieën over het ontstaan van de nieuwe taal is, dat de belangrijkste veranderingen in het Afrikaans teruggaan op interferenties.
De Franse hugenoten die in de 16e/17e eeuw naar Zuid-Afrika kwamen, hadden geen grote invloed op de taal, alleen de Franse namen herinneren er nog aan. De Franse woorden die in het Afrikaans overgenomen zijn, kwamen uit het Nederlands van de 17e en 18e eeuw.
Ook de "Maleise slaven" uit Indonesië, Angola en andere gebieden, meestal Portugese kolonieën, die in de 18e eeuw naar Zuid-Afrika gebracht werden, hadden maar beperkte invloed op de taal. De Maleise en Portugese woorden in het Afrikaans werden al vroeger door het Nederlands ontleend (zeemanstaal).
In het midden van de 18e eeuw was het proces van deflexie (vereenvoudiging en reductie van de nominale en verbale paradigma; vgl. ook het flexieverlies in het Middelnederlands) al zo ver, dat een eigen variant van de taal was ontstaan, het "Kaap-Nederlands". Vanaf de 2e helft van de 18e eeuw was een eigen taalsysteem gevestigd. Door analyse van de bronnen is een ontwikkeling van het Nederlands via het Kaapnederlands naar het Afrikaans te zien.
Rond 1800 kwamen de Engelsen naar Zuid-Afrika. Hun komst had echter geen grote invloed op de taal. Maar de Engelsen bleven hun eigen taal spreken, het bestuur en het onderwijs werden Engelstalig. De Kaap werd Britse kolonie. Het Engels had toen een veel hogere sociale status dan het Afrikaans; de bovenlaag, het bestuur en de intellectuelen praatten Engels, het Afrikaans werd als "kombuistaal" beschouwd. De opvolgers van de Nederlanders en de Vlamingen ("conservatieve boeren") werden meer en meer ontevreden over het Engelse bestuur (slavenbevrijding) en trokken in de zogenaamde. "Grote Trek" (1836-44) naar het noorden, weg van de kust. In verschillende gebieden vond men nu ook verschillende varianten van het Afrikaans. De ruzies met de Engelsen gingen door.
Het opkomende nationalisme in de 19e eeuw vroeg ook om de verdediging van de taal door de Afrikaans-taligen. Voor het eerst begon men nu de Afrikaanse taal op te schrijven. Er werd een spelling ontworpen, men gebruikte de taal in het onderwijs en er werd een Afrikaanse bijbelvertaling geschreven. Deze vertaling was vanwege het gezag van de bijbel belangrijk voor de ontwikkeling van het Afrikaans (vgl. hierbij ook de "Statenvertaling" en de gotische bijbelvertaling).
