Volkspele...SA dance in British school...

n order: top to bottom....

........road in front of school, this morning....aeroplane going to touch down on ...........Heathrow....house on pic is next-door neighbour's,
Year 1's doing a South African folk dance....("Afrikaners are joyful people")...still practising though...but they were so cute...

    It's a Volkspelerok not a freaking frilly dress. And the boys wear Volkspeledrag not aoutfits to match the girls' frilly dresses. Get your terms straight before you post something.

  2. hi Anonymous...tks for your visit... the English DO NOT understand "Volkspelerok" and "Volkspeledrag"..that is Afrikaans terms...you know...hehe... this post is written in English for my ENGLISH readers... Afrikaans people know EXACTLY what I'm talking about...!! Wonder if you've noticed it was written in English!

    HI there, my daughter has to do a project on cultural dance, Being a white south african we dont have much exept our afrikaans volkspele, so I think we can all learn from it,as these days they concentrate on the black cultural dances, I need help can anyone suppply me with links or infor and pictures relating to the volkspele,
    questions she must answer
    1 Describe costumes worn
    2 symbolism of costumes
    3 steps of the dance
    specific place where it is performed
    4meaning of the dance (reason it is performed)
    she must make a collage with pictures et, please help i would appreciate it,

    I will try and help...costumes, easy..look at the pictures...long dresses...lace...
    symbolism ...from the Voortrekkers..it was hot...and the "hoods" for the sun...to protect their faces...
    steps...that i can't help you with...i have to demonstrate it! If i can advise you...search the internet...and try this site...
