South Africa
On this picture, which every South African knows so well, is Jan van Riebeeck, the "father" of our country. He arrived in the Cape at 6 April 1652. Till 1994, 6th April was always a Public Holiday. We celebrated it in the past as the day our country was founded. But, unfortunately, due to many other "happenings", it is not anymore part of "our" country's history...for "some" reason, our previous President, (he is very clever though...?) has decided not to let the South Africans celebrate it any more.
Well, obvious reasons, I guess. On this picture, Jan van Riebeeck meets the Hottentot people. They lived in the wild, didn't know any white people and were very scared, I guess? Jan van Riebeeck came to the Cape to start a halfway-station to the East. Link....
